Your fitness journey isn’t failing because of a lack of willpower or the wrong strategy—it’s failing because of emotional instability and a lack of emotional maturity.
For years, I was stuck in the all-or-nothing mindset. I’d go ALL IN on a plan:
Ultra-restrictive eating.
Skipping social occasions to “stay on track.”
Overcompensating with extra cardio.
Telling myself I didn’t like dessert, when deep down, I felt too guilty or overwhelmed to eat it.
At the time, I thought this was the only way to succeed.
But here’s the truth: that mindset doesn’t work long-term. It leads to burnout, binge eating, and self-sabotage—the exact things that keep you stuck in a cycle of starting over and over again.
Healing My Relationship With Food:
When I began healing my relationship with food, I thought it meant saying “yes” to everything I’d previously avoided:
✨ Ordering what I wanted off the menu without guilt.
✨ Picking up the chocolate bar at the store because I felt like it.
✨ Saying yes to dessert—even if my mind tried to convince me I “shouldn’t.”
And for a while, that was exactly what I needed—to let go of restriction and allow myself to enjoy food again.
But as time went on, I realized that true healing wasn’t just about saying yes all the time—it was about finding balance between the yes and no.
Emotional Maturity With Food
Now, I understand what a healthy relationship with food really looks like:
✅ Sometimes you say yes to dessert because it’s part of living in the moment and making memories.
✅ Other times you say no—not out of guilt or fear, but because you value how nourishing your body with whole, unprocessed foods makes you feel.
✅ You embrace balance—an 80/20 split that works for you.
This is emotional maturity: understanding that food isn’t just about how you look—it’s about nourishment, performance, memories, and thriving in life. It’s about making decisions from a place of self-care rather than restriction or rebellion.
What’s Holding You Back?
If you’re struggling with your fitness journey—whether it’s fat loss or performance-based—take a step back and look at your emotions toward your goal:
❌ Are you stuck in the cycle of restriction → binge → “f**k it” moments?
❌ Are excuses holding you back? (“Work is too busy,” “I’ll start next week,” “I deserve this after a hard day.”)
These patterns won’t get you anywhere. Emotional growth will. Balance will. Healing will. 💛
Let Go of Perfection
Your journey doesn’t have to be perfect—it just has to be sustainable. Progress comes from finding balance between structure and flexibility, nourishment and indulgence, effort and rest.
Let go of perfection and embrace the process.
Emotional maturity isn’t built overnight—it’s something you grow into as you learn more about yourself and what works for your life.
So next time you feel stuck, ask yourself: Am I focusing on emotional growth as much as physical progress? Because success in your fitness journey starts from within.
